National Puppy Day was this past Sunday, and honestly, every day should be Puppy Day!
Whether you’re a new puppy parent or just love those adorable, clumsy paws, raising a happy, well-adjusted pup takes patience, consistency, and a little bit of humor. Here are some tips and tricks to help navigate puppyhood like a pro!

1. Socialization is Key
Puppies are little sponges, soaking up the world around them. The more positive experiences they have early on, the more confident and well-behaved they’ll be as adults.
Expose your pup to different people, places, sounds, and situations—just be sure to keep it positive and at their comfort level!
2. Potty Training: Consistency is Everything
Nobody loves cleaning up accidents, so start a routine early:
✔ Take your puppy out first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bed.
✔ Reward them with treats and praise when they go outside.
✔ Be patient—accidents happen! If they do, clean up and move on.
3. Chew on This: Managing the Teething Phase
Puppies explore the world with their mouths, which means chewing on everything (including your favorite shoes).
Offer plenty of safe chew toys and redirect them whenever they go for something off-limits. Frozen carrots or special puppy teething rings can help soothe sore gums.
4. Training: Start Early, Keep it Fun
Basic commands like sit, stay, come, and leave it aren’t just party tricks—they’re essential for a well-behaved pup. Use positive reinforcement (treats, praise, playtime) to make training a fun experience for both of you.
5. Grooming & Vet Visits: Make It a Positive Experience
Get your puppy used to brushing, nail trims, and ear cleaning early. Pair these experiences with treats and gentle handling so they learn to tolerate (or even enjoy) grooming. And, of course, keep up with vet checkups and vaccinations to ensure they stay healthy!
Bonus Tip: Give Yourself Grace!
Puppies are full of energy, curiosity, and sometimes mischief. There will be frustrating moments, but remember—they’re learning! Stay patient, keep training sessions short and fun, and celebrate the little victories.
